Short Bio
Draco Amethystus is a published SFF author and mythopoet. He has a deep and abiding love for reading and writing books. A self-proclaimed aficionado of dragons, he moonlights as a semi-professional dragonologist. Because of this dracophilia, dragons almost always feature in his writing along with Fae, vampires, and other mythical creatures. A bibliovert and catrovert, he prefers the company of fictional characters and cats to people.
When he isn’t writing or reading, Draco travels as much as he can, mostly in forests or on/in the water…hiking, kayaking, and diving across the world. A polyglot, he loves to learn languages and collects university degrees mostly just for the fun of it.
Long Bio
As an elementary school student, Draco wrote rhyming poetry with really bad colored pictures his child self considered rather good at the time. By the time he reached middle school, he was writing both poetry and short stories with a labyrinth long list of characters. In sixth grade his English teacher gave the class an assignment of writing an alternative ending to Daniel Keyes’ Flowers for Algernon. When Draco received his paper back, there was a big 100% written on the top alongside a note from the teacher to speak with him after class. Nervous but curious about what it could be, he met with his teacher who gently suggested that Draco could tell him if an adult wrote the paper for him. Young Draco insisted that he wrote it and his supportive teacher believed him, thankfully, and was dually impressed.
Draco continued to write through high school and beyond but was too afraid to share his writing until COVID hit and he decided to share his poetry on social media. Finding an audience that enjoyed his poetry and short fiction was one of the greatest joys of his life. Since then he has published both poetry and SFF with both indie and traditional publishers. His work has even led to the completion of a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.
After realizing how much he enjoyed supporting other writers, he created Storm Dragon Publishing, LLC to provide a special spot for SFF short fictionists and SFF poets alike. While his own writing keeps him quite engaged, he decided to publish other authors in a prestigious annual anthology series, Muses of Mythology, and the Mythopoets Society and webzine on this website.
